Let’s be honest…pulling yourself together as a mom isn’t always easy; especially if you have more than one kiddo. Showering daily is a win for most moms and if makeup happens it’s a pretty darn good day!
After my son was born, I definitely felt like I was run over by a truck. Hot mess…yup, that was me. It took me several months to get my sh*t together and figure out this whole mom gig. I was pretty hard on myself and kept forgetting that I grew a human and popped it out…that’s not a cake walk!
One thing I found to be the biggest help was to “pull myself together” every morning. I aimed for showering daily, getting dressed in clothes (even if it was a nice pair of workout pants & a tank…no PJs allowed), taking care of my skin & putting on a little makeup. That little routine always invigorated me and started my day off on a good note.
Did this happen 365? No, but I can say I am pretty darn close to 100% because I love how I feel when I take a little time for myself. One of my best friends told me, “When mama is happy, everyone is happy”. Absolute truth!
My son is a little over two now and I have perfected the 5 minute makeup routine. My goal is to look refreshed and natural while using products that are safe and non-toxic. It has taken me yeeeeeaaaars to find just the right combination and now that I have it, I’m excited to share the goodness with my fellow mamas!
FIRST…always start with good skincare.
SECOND…brighten up those eyes! Lack of sleep is inevitable as a new mom. I LOVE Beauty counter’s Touchup Skin Concealer Pen. I worked in cosmetics at Nordstrom and my go to concealer was the YSL Touche Eclat, but since cleaning up my beauty routine of chemicals and toxins I had to kiss that little lover goodbye. I never found anything comparable until I tried the Touchup Skin Concealer Pen. Watch this Mini Master Class Video & see the pen works it’s magic!
THIRD…brush a little eye shadow on your lids and watch your eyes pop. A few of my favorites are Beautycounter’s Color Shade Eye Duo in Oyster/Amethyst, 100% Pure’s Fruit Pigmented Eye Shadow in Champagne, and Alima Pure’s Eye Mineral Makeup in any color.
FOURTH…give your cheeks a little color. I am a huge fan of cream blush because it takes two seconds to apply, instantly freshens up your face & is perfect for hot weather. Keep it in your diaper bag (yup, that’s all you carry as a mom) and freshen up your cheeks midday. You’ll be amazed at how it brightens your day! A few of my favorites are Beautycounter’s Color Pinch Cream Blusher in Hibiscus and 100% Pure’s Fruit Pigmented Lip & Cheek Tint in Cranberry Glow. If you’re a fan of powder blush I love Beautycounter’s Color Sweet Blush Duo in Tawny/Whisper.
FIFTH…lengthen those lashes and watch your tired eyes revive! If my day is busy, busy and I have no extra time for makeup, I always make sure to put on mascara. It just makes your eyes pop. For the past five or so years I have been using 100% Pure’s Fruit Pigmented Mascara in Black Tea. It is hands down the best performing natural, clean mascara I have ever used!
LASTLY…don’t forget your smoochers. I keep a few lip color options in my diaper bag so when I hop in the car I put a little on before I’m on my way. A few of my favorite are Beautycounter’s Lip Gloss in Buff, Beautycounter’s Lip Sheer in Plum, and Karma Gloss by Colorganics in Harmony.
In as little as 5 minutes I can really revive my tired face & it always adds a little pep in my step for the rest of the day. 😉 I use all non-toxic, clean, natural and some organic makeup/skincare products because I believe what you put in your body is just as important as what you put on your body.
I’ve spent years testing, trying, researching and reading about the safest, best performing beauty products in the industry. If you’d like help cleaning up your skincare regimen or makeup bag, give me a holler. email@example.com. We can chat in person if you’re in my neck of the woods or via the interwebs. 🙂
I hope you find this simple routine helpful and if you haven’t given the granola side of makeup a try, I know these products will impress you!
