Before my son was born I was lucky enough to have a mini library all set for him. My beautiful best friends and mom asked the guests of my baby shower to bring a favorite book with a little note written inside for him. I was overwhelmed with gratitude, but did not realize how amazing it would be to have a variety of books to choose from once Little C arrived!
Early on I would page through the board books in hopes C would soak up a bit of the beauty from each one. Our daily reads quickly turned into one of my favorite times of day with him.
I vividly remember finally settling into a bedtime routine around 4ish months that included bath, baby massage, PJs and book time. We’d page through three board books and then it was off to dreamland. Maybe it was luck, but somehow my little nugget was sleeping 8+ hours a night at around four months old and part of me believes it was because of our routine.
Some of you may be cursing me because my newborn slept 8+ hours a night, but those magnificent, uninterrupted nights of sleep came at a cost…the kid did. not. nap. Well, not until he was nine months old! It was a struggle, but I again fell back on a routine that included reading him three books and C thankfully started napping close to three solid hours a day.
It was bliss!! I write ‘was’ because the kid dropped his naps a few months before his third birthday. I am crying a little as I write this because I miss those naps oh so much! I was in mommy denial thinking naps didn’t end until oh, let’s say around age 10. Can you tell I am still a little bitter? 😉
Ok, let’s get back to the point of this post…a cozy book nook.
C is almost four and he LOVES books! We still read three books before bed every night and often read a few books throughout the day. It’s definitely an activity we both look forward to!
When we moved to our new home, C’s room had the perfect spot for a book nook. I found a couple shelves to hold the “books of the month”, a cushy chair, repurposed art and a basket to hold our overflow of books that don’t fit in his closet book cubby.
Each night he chooses the three books he’d like to read…sometime from the nook, the basket or the cubbies. We have a. lot. of. books!
As much as I LOVE Pinterest, I did not want to break the bank on this project because with how often we move I need the decor to be versatile. Below are a few pictures of C’s book nook. I’m not a photographer, but you’ll get the idea of how it all came together.
A cozy little spot for us to read together or for Little C to page through his favorite books.

What’s in C’s book nook this month?
I love C’s cozy book nook and the fun we had creating it together. The pictures just don’t do it justice!
Reading is such an important part of a child’s development and as I watch him grow (faster than I’d like!) I hope his love for reading continues.
What are your favorite books to read with your kiddos?
